Woking runner flies the flag for Pyrford Puffers across London, Sydney and New York

Members of Pyrford Puffers are celebrating an outstanding year for fellow club runner Paula Holmes, who has completed three of the world's most iconic marathons in the space of just a few months.

The Woking-based runner began her marathon campaign at the TCS London Marathon, where she produced another impressive performance, completing the famous 26.2-mile course in 3 hours 49 minutes 18 seconds. Paula reached halfway in 1:52:08 and finished 16,061st overall, placing 332nd in her age category. Her result continued a remarkable record of consistent marathon performances spanning several years.

The international challenge continued in Australia, where Paula lined up for the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS, one of the newest additions to the prestigious World Marathon Majors series. Among more than 36,000 runners, she delivered one of the strongest performances of her season, finishing in 3 hours 45 minutes 53 seconds and placing 46th in the women's 55-59 age category. Paula's even pacing throughout the race highlighted the strength and experience she has developed through years of dedicated training.

Not content with two major marathons, Paula then travelled to the United States to take on the world-famous TCS New York City Marathon. Running with bib number 28534, she completed the challenging five-borough course in 3 hours 52 minutes 46 seconds, averaging an impressive pace of 8 minutes 53 seconds per mile and finishing 15,098th overall from a field of more than 61,000 runners.

For many athletes, completing a single World Marathon Major represents the pinnacle of a running career. To successfully complete three such events in one year is a testament to Paula's dedication, resilience and love of the sport.

Her achievements also reflect the supportive environment fostered by Pyrford Puffers, a club that has become synonymous with encouraging runners of all abilities to pursue ambitious goals while enjoying the camaraderie that comes with being part of a thriving local running community.

Paula's marathon journey demonstrates that age is no barrier to achievement. Competing in her mid-fifties, she continues to perform at a level many runners aspire to, consistently recording marathon times under four hours on some of the world's biggest stages.

From the streets of London to the harbourside roads of Sydney and the iconic finish line in New York's Central Park, Paula has proudly represented Pyrford Puffers and the local running community throughout a memorable year of marathon success.

As club members celebrate her achievements, there is little doubt that fellow Puffers will be watching closely to see which major marathon challenge comes next.
